It looks like there's an error with the breadboard picture for battery usage. Pin 15 of the microview has a red wire going down to the bus strip, but it plugged into the row used for GND, not VCC.
Thanks for noticing that! The diagram has been fixed. It'd be very bad to short 5V to ground!
