Pure Data & Arduino- Controlling Sound with Jiffer Harriman from CU
Learn how to create and control sound with the Sparkfun RedBoard and Pure Data (PD). Using the Arduino compatible RedBoard we will create physical interfaces for control and driving outputs with PD. You will learn the ins and outs of wiring up your own controllers with buttons, knobs, accelerometers and more. PD is a powerful (and intuitive!) graphical audio programming environment where we will explore sound synthesis, audio effects, as well as work with live audio and samples. We will also look at techniques for driving various outputs from this environment (blinking LEDs, percussive motors). This is a hands on class where we will build circuits and software from the ground up while exploring a variety of sound-based applications. This class is a chance to learn new ways of working with sound and electronics as well as get some basic tools to take home and continue the journey!
This class will tentatively be live streamed for those of you who cannot attend! This is a free service.

Materials included in this class are:
- 9V Alkaline Battery
- Schottky Diode
- 9V Snap Connector
- Jumper Wires Premium 6" M/M 2 Packs of 10
- SparkFun USB Mini-B Cable - 6 Foot
- Momentary Push Button Switch - 12mm Square
- Resistor 10k Ohm 1/6th Watt PTH
- Breadboard - Translucent Self-Adhesive (Clear)
- Solenoid - 5v (small)
- N-Channel MOSFET 60V 30A
- LED - Basic Red 5mm
- RedBoard - Programmed with Arduino
- Resistor 330 Ohm 1/6th Watt PTH
- Triple Axis Accelerometer Breakout
- Trimpot 10K with knob
Prerequisites: Participants should be familiar with basic Arduino programming as we will be uploading Arduino code, but not covering the code on the Microcontroller. Ages 16 and up.
What to bring: Yourself, a laptop with Pure Data, Arduino, FTDI Drivers and Arduino installed and maybe a bite to eat for lunch. SparkFun has laptops than can be used on a first come, first served basis.
