Costume Hacking Part I - Introduction to Sewing with Electronics with LilyTwinkle

Join us in a three part series created to help you get started with e-textiles for your costumes. Learn how to work with conductive thread and the LilyPad Arduino to add light and sound effects to your clothing. The sessions are designed to be taken in order and are suitable for the complete beginner, with optional drop ins in sessions 2 or 3 for those who are familiar with e-textiles but want to learn more about LilyPad or more intermediate techniques. The last session of the series is designed to be a work session - bring in your project and get a crafty head start on your Halloween costume with tips and tricks from the Sparkfun team.

Materials included in this class are:

Concepts covered: Overview of materials and techniques with demo projects and an introduction to the LilyPad series of sewable electronic components. Class will learn how to sew circuits using conductive thread and explore incorporating the LilyTwinkle kit into a simple project to take home. We will also begin brainstorming ideas on how to use sewable electronics in costuming projects.

Prerequisites: This session is suitable for complete beginners to e-textiles and electronics.. Students should be able to thread a needle and prior experience with hand sewing is recommended. Ages 8 and up or experience with handsewing.

What to bring: If you have a costume that you want to enhance with electronics bring it along!

Time: 2PM-5PM

Location: SparkFun Electronics. Please come to the front door on the southwest corner of the building. There will be a sign near the door indicating for you to ring the bell so we can let you in.
